Dynamic Volume Management enables you to create, change, or mirror volumes without rebooting, by using dynamic storage and disks A dynamic disk has a single partition within which you can create volumes Simple volumes are the same as dynamic volumes except that dynamic volumes are dynamic (can be changed on the fly), can span disks, and include additional types for advanced hardware (striped, mirrored, and RAID-5) NOTE Windows Server 2008 has negated a major benefit of dynamic disks: the ability to extend and shrink volumes, which you can now do with basic disks
